Natural Face Masks - Anti Aging & Antioxidant Masks You Can Make Yourself

Natural face masks can be made at home that are much cheaper, and just as effective, as any face mask product you can buy in stores. One of the reasons that the homemade versions are every bit as effective, if not even more effective than their commercial counterparts is that they can be made with ingredients that are fresh, and do not contain added fillers, artificial colorants or preservatives.

Natural face masks can be created from ingredients as simple as oatmeal and honey. Just finely grind a little oatmeal (not the instant type) in a blender or coffee grinder and mix it with honey to form a paste and apply to the face for ten-to-fifteen minutes before washing it off. This simple mask will do wonders for exfoliating and hydrating your skin. This is even more important now with the winter months at hand, as most of us suffer from drier skin in the wintertime.

Natural face masks can incorporate ingredients such as essential oils to create further therapeutic effects. For example, tea tree oil can help improve acne-prone skin. Tea tree oil is a natural antiseptic that can kill the bacteria that cause acne breakouts. Rosemary essential oil is well-known to improve oily skin conditions, and lavender oil helps soothe irritated skin conditions. These are only a few of the essential oils that can be used in masks; there are hundreds out there with excellent therapeutic effects for skin care. Consult a reference guide to ensure that the oil you are thinking of incorporating into your recipe is safe for that purpose.

Natural face masks that incorporate fruit into their ingredients have anti aging properties. The natural fruit acids help to exfoliate and smooth the skin, as well as provide wonderful antioxidants to the skin. Many commercial face masks that contain antioxidant ingredients are very expensive, but making your own can save you a lot of money. An example of a powerful antioxidant skin mask that you can make very inexpensively is a decadent chocolate mask. The simple ingredients are cocoa, honey, cream or sour cream and oatmeal. These ingredients pack a wallop of skin freshening and renewing powers.
